Paula has worked in the Centre for Health Informatics, Trinity College Dublin since 1996, receiving her MSc. in Health Informatics in 2000. The Centre brings together expertise from the fields of Computer Science, Engineering and Health Sciences and has the general of objective of applying such expertise to promoting and furthering the application of Information and Communications Technology to Healthcare. She has been lead researcher on a number of national and international projects. She has also worked on developing curriculum and lecturing in the area of Health Informatics for many undergraduate and post graduates courses. Since 2002 her research has focused on developing online communities for children in hospital, to provide social support through communication and opportunities for education and entertainment. The culmination of her research has resulted in the development of an interactive portal called Áit Eile (Another World) www.aiteile.ie and also the latest research is a new initiative called Solas www.solas.ie.
