Abstract
My PhD research into how young people make meaning in a mainstream classroom after severe brain injury, has implications for teaching/learning before returning to school, at a time which is usually served by the hospital education service. During the initial weeks and months after the injury, pupils have different teaching requirements form those of other young people. In this paper I will will explore the different teaching requirements of young people who have sustained an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) during the initial weeks and months after the injury and call for specialist teaching at this time. Through considering the needs of the pupil in a mainstream class, Siân will make recommendations for tuition in the period of time before a pupil returns to school. She will discuss strategies she has found helpful to her pupils and briefly outline the syllabus followed in Bristol.
